Q. Where do you fly?
A. Angel Flight assists patients in the States of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama for transportation needs requiring travel outside of their area. Angel Flight has the ability to transport patients long distances through an alliance with other volunteer pilot organizations through membership in the ACA.
Q. What type of flights
does Angel Flight make?
A. The flight services provided by Angel Flight are typically as follows:
- Flights made regularly for cancer treatment.
- Transporting patients for organ and tissue evaluation and transplant.
- Flying anyone who cannot afford the additional burden of regular commercial
air transportation for medical treatment that is not available locally.
- Flying anyone who cannot be exposed to commercial air transportation due
to their medical condition.
- Flying anyone who lives in a remote area who cannot logistically get to the
city where their medical treatment is.

Q. Who can request a flight?
A. Requests come from social workers, discharge planners, physicians, and other health care professionals who are in a position to verify both a patient's financial need and medical suitability to fly.
Angel Flight requests are received from health care workers at virtually every major medical facility in the Southeast, and a wide variety of other organizations.
Q. What is the criteria
for receiving transportation?
A. Angel Flight is not an air ambulance service. Patients must be medically stable, ambulatory, and capable of sitting upright for the duration of the flight. There must be either a demonstrated financial need or reason why public transportation cannot be utilized. Patients must be able to be transported in an non-pressurized aircraft. Generally, the treatment they are seeking must not be available locally. A personally signed letter from the physician must be obtained.

Q. Does Angel Flight provide emergency flights?
A. No. The patients we assist are traveling for scheduled treatments and surgeries. We generally require at least five (5) days advance notice to arrange a mission. We do arrange for emergency flights for transplant recipients, but all arrangements must be made by the Transplant Coordinator in advance.
Q. What other services does Angel Flight provide?
A. While most missions are for scheduled treatments and surgeries, we also provide flights for organ recipients as well as organ and bone marrow donors. Angel Flight stands ready to provide disaster relief assistance to communities in the southeast in the event of a disaster.
